XCOLLAR AND NEXSPLINT
PEDIATRIC USE
Following please find the pertinent information on the pediatric use of the XCollar and NeXsplint.
- Patient sizes - Our devices fit pediatric patients from approx 25 lbs (12kg), about 2 to 2 ½ years old depending on individual’s physical characteristics of patient. Our devices can also splint the cervical spine of most adult patients of over 350 lbs (160 kg).
- When applying the XCollar to a very small patient (around 12kg), the Chin Strap may be tightened prior to application to ensure snug fit and best immobilization of the patient. Besides that the rest of the application method is exactly the same as in case of adult patients.
- If the pediatric patient is so small that our devices may not adequately fit (infants), a full body immobilization device may be used in combination with and infant specific CID.
Also depending on the size of the patient’s head in relation to the size of the body, EMS providers should place padding under the head of the patient, under the back of the patient (or not at all) to fill the gaps to minimize patient manipulation and maintain alignment. This standard procedure to ensure proper alignment must be followed according to local protocols and federal guidelines.
